Developed by: Fabiana (with assistance from Profy technology)
Knowledge Area/Subjects: Environmental Studies, Economics
Theme: Sustainability and Entrepreneurship

The Eco-Friendly Enterprise Challenge aims to foster an understanding of sustainable development and entrepreneurship among 1st year high school students. This practical, project-based activity engages students in researching, designing, and presenting a business model that addresses a specific environmental issue. Students will work in teams to identify a problem, propose an innovative solution that is environmentally sustainable, and develop a basic business plan that includes product design, marketing strategy, and financial planning. Throughout this challenge, students will apply critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to real-world issues. They will explore concepts such as the triple bottom line, sustainable supply chains, and green technologies. By integrating economic principles with environmental studies, the activity aims to prepare students to be responsible citizens and future leaders in a global economy that increasingly demands sustainable practices. The project culminates in a presentation day where teams pitch their business models to a panel of judges (composed of teachers and local entrepreneurs), simulating a real-world entrepreneurial experience.

Learning Objectives

The primary objective of this activity is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and address the complexities of creating sustainable businesses in today's economy. Through hands-on experience, students will learn about the importance of sustainability in business, including how to integrate environmental, social, and economic considerations into business planning and operations. They will be challenged to think creatively about solving environmental problems, while also considering the feasibility and profitability of their solutions. This multidisciplinary approach encourages students not only to think critically but also to be proactive in their future roles as business leaders or entrepreneurs.
